Judy Todd, though born in Indiana, has lived her entire life in Southern California, except
for three years teaching at the University of London. She has been drawing and painting since a
very early age, but became much more productive after retiring from teaching at California State
University, Dominguez Hills, in 2004.
Since then her paintings have won a dozen awards in local art shows and been exhibited in
two national shows. Her painting "Forest Birds" was awarded Third Place in the 2007 Watercolor
West show. Her painting "Bird Girl" was published in Palette Magazine in January, 2008. Until
September, 2008, 22 of her paintings are on exhibit at California State University, Fullerton.
Occasionally experimenting with mixed media, Judy works primarily in watercolor, although
she uses it in nontraditional ways. She prefers to work with pure color straight from the tube
of paint and to create exaggerated organic shapes based on nature, animals, and people. She
tries to express the beauty and joy of just being alive, so that we will treasure our brief
time in this amazing world and take good care of it and each other.
